Main Street LIVE is located in the historic town of Trinidad, in southern Colorado. The original organization, Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre, was founded in 2002 by Harriet and Fred Vaugeois and grew over the course of 17 years to summer repertory productions, year-round community theatre, youth productions and summer camps. With the convergence of the retirement of the founders, financial uncertainty looming, and the arrival of COVID-19 (all in early 2020), the Board of Directors began to focus on reorganizing and rebuilding the organization.
Through the summer months of 2020, the new mission, vision and goals emerged, along with a new name to clearly represent those goals – MAIN STREET LIVE.
Our Mission is to provide year-round, diverse, quality theatrical entertainment and cultural enrichment for Trinidad and surrounding communities, and to provide educational performance opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our Vision includes open doors as a live performing arts center with an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in southern Colorado for all ages and a variety of interests. Teamwork and collaboration, diversity and inclusion, and integrity with commitment to quality will drive all of our decisions and efforts.
Main Street LIVE will carry on the goals that the SCRT held strong:
transform Trinidad’s historic downtown district
bolster the local economy
elevate the quality of life
enrich the lives of the area’s youth
be a launch pad for young and upcoming artists
Main Street LIVE remains steadfast in our belief in collaboration and cooperation, diversity in staffing and theatrical subject matter, cross-generational activities, teamwork and a true sense of ensemble.
