Marking nine years of fantastical, fun, eye-popping, exciting, silly, startling, free-wheeling mobile art parading through Trinidad, Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico issued proclamation declaring September 10, 2022, “Art Car Day” in Trinidad, CO!
During the annual parade after-party (CarDango) at Art Cartopia, Mayor Rico presented a formal Proclamation, declaring 9/10/22, and every second Saturday in September as “Art Car Day” in Trinidad, CO!
Attendees, including many art car artists who were decked out to coordinate with their cars, cheered as Mayor Rico made the official recognition. The Proclamation recognizes the creativity and fun of the weekend, the area residents and artists who travel a distance to take part, the Art CarTopia Museum and the draw for tourists and visitors.
ArtoCade Executive Director, Amanda Palmer commented, “We’re very happy about this support from Mayor Rico and the City of Trinidad for ArtoCade and Art Cartopia! I see it as acknowledgement of the hard work of our Founders – Pat Patrick and Rodney Wood in creating a lasting legacy.”
Board President and ArtoCade co-founder, Pat Patrick said, “We’ve always received tremendous support from the City of Trinidad, but this official decree is frosting on the art car!”
The Proclamation reads as follows:
“ART CAR DAY” SEPTEMBER 10, 2022 & ANNUALLY ON THE SECOND SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER
WHEREAS, in 2013, Trinidad started celebrating and parading Art Cars through its streets of the heart of downtown as our citizens and visitors watched in awe of their beauty and uniqueness; and WHEREAS, people from all over the United States have brought their creative cars to our annual ArtoCade Parade held annually on the second Saturday of September in downtown Trinidad; and
WHEREAS, Trinidad, Colorado, is home to Art CarTopia Museum, America!s premier Art Car Museum which does not require an appointment to visit and also offers free of charge access for people to enjoy; and WHEREAS, the annual parade showcases Trinidad!s entertainment and artistic values and abilities; and
WHEREAS, the second Saturday of September will be celebrated with an annual parade, welcoming visitors and locals to see the creative genius of Art Cars.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Phillip T. Rico, Mayor of the City of Trinidad, Colorado, on behalf of the entire Trinidad City Council, do hereby proclaim September 10, 2022 & annually on the second Saturday of September as “ART CAR DAY” and urge our community to join in the celebration of Art Cars and the imaginative flair of those who create them. “
